The Most Important Stanza

I chose the last stanza:

“Ah! well-a-day! What evil looks
Had i from old and young!
Instead of the cross, the Albatross
About my neck was hung.”

I chose this stanza because it powerfully closes up part 3 of the poem; iyt does this by saying it’s the end of a day that was a long tiring day, and then, it explains how he feels he has done wrong to himself and his crew by vcursing them by killing the Albatross. It also is a strong close because it symbolises the end of Jesus’ first life by saying:
“instead of ythe cross, the Albatross
about my neck was hung”
Which is a metaphor to what hes done against what humans have done.

Analysing The Poem

I chose the phrase ‘we hailed it in gods name’

I chose it because it shows that they are relieved by god’s care for them because it symbolises good luck for sailors which is why i thought this line was significant.also this line tells us how they were feeling before the albatross came across
– terrified for their lives, which is what i interpreted from the sentence, because he hailed the bird as if he was saved.

This is also a great description of whats happening because they used ‘hailed’
and you hail a god, but this bird is christian, so it makes it more powerful in this instance.
